Structural Welder’s Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Weld together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams and various work orders
- Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease or other foreign matter
- Manually apply filler rod to supply metal
- Clean or degrease joint or work piece, using wire brush, portable grinder or chemical bath
- Perform grinding and joint preparation for NDT processes
- Demonstrate ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW
- Read and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons reports and determine if job sites are safe for personnel and hot work
- Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks and other identifying marks
- Wear personal protective equipment: hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed footwear and respirator when necessary
- Set up and operate equipment and select proper electrodes according to metals to be joined as instructed
Qualifications:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Must pass a pre-employment screen
- Reliable transportation to and from work
