Portsmouth, VA, 29 October 2014 – Fairlead Integrated announced today that their Precision Manufacturing and Integration Division (FPMI) in Portsmouth, VA has been awarded a contract from the Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to manufacture and integrate mechanical structures for the Agency’s Aegis Ashore Program. Aegis Ashore is the land-based capability of the overarching Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) System that addresses the evolving, world-wide, ballistic missile security environment. The Fairlead contract supports the program’s installation in Poland which is the second installation in Europe. The first installation in Romania is slated to be operational next year. FPMI will fabricate 65 complex equipment foundations, called skids, in nine different configurations that support the various electronic subsystems of the AN/SPY-1 Radar and other subsystems, and power equipment that comprise the overall shore-based BMD system.

“The Aegis Ashore system is designed to be modular and our skids are key to that modular concept with fittings for wheels and false flooring for cabling and environmental connections. When the control consoles, equipment cabinets, and power racks are installed these skids can be quickly moved into place and interconnected” explained Frank Zingales, FPMI’s Aegis Ashore Program Manager.

“This is a strategic contract for our company and we are providing the best of Fairlead’s technical skills to a new customer for a U.S. national security interests program. As a small defense industry business, we are extremely proud the MDA selected Fairlead for such an important program.” said Milo Hyde, President of Fairlead Integrated.

The contract is expected to be completed in early 2016.
