Congressman Bobby Scott Visit to FPMICongressman Bobby Scott Boatworks TourPortsmouth, VA, 21 August 2017 – Fairlead announced today that Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA-03) recently visited two of the company’s divisions to see firsthand the skilled workforce and quality products and services the company provides to the region and brings to the construction of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.

On 10 Aug, Congressman Scott visited Fairlead’s Precision Manufacturing and Integrated Division (FPMI) in Portsmouth, VA. FPMI is one of the largest ventilation ducting fabricators for aircraft carriers in Hampton Roads and has supplied thousands of pieces of ducting for CVN 65, CVN 73, and CVN 78 and CVN 79 over the past three years. In addition to ducting, FPMI manufactured mechanical structures and tooling, equipment foundations, and crew and equipment lockers for the recently delivered USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). During his tour, Congressman Scott and Fairlead’s owner, Jerry Miller, Fred Pasquine, Fairlead’s Chief Operating Officer and Gary Dove, FPMI’s General Manager, discussed the unique products and services Fairlead contributes to U.S. Navy ship construction. “Virginia is the only place in the world that builds U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. It was a pleasure to visit Fairlead, meet with employees, and see up close the hard work that goes into creating the greatest ships on earth,” stated Congressman Scott.

“Hosting Congressman Scott allowed us to highlight the amazing work our employees do, and express the importance of funding for U.S. aircraft carrier construction to our community and workforce,” said Dove. “He understands the importance of having a strong workforce and the struggle this industry faces with steady work. We appreciated him taking time out of his busy schedule to meet our employees and see what we do.”

On 15 Aug, Congressman Bobby Scott visited the Fairlead Boatworks Division (FBW) and met with FBW’s General Manager Bob Bodvake for a tour and discussion of the yard’s work. In addition to general military and commercial boat repairs, FBW fabricates large mechanical structures that support aircraft carrier construction at its waterfront yard in Newport News, VA.
